 Welcome to Cygnet class!

We are a friendly and active Year One class of twenty two children.  Our teachers are Mrs Sharp, Miss Knowles, Mrs Perry and Mr Marriott.  Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Bridge.

We enjoy learning through a cross-curricular approach so that we can use the skills we have learnt across all the different areas of learning.  Our topics are developed from the children’s interests which so far this year have included magic potions and dinosaurs!

We like to learn by exploring and following our own lines of enquiry.  For example in English, we recently solved the mystery of who took Baby Bear’s porridge by looking for clues around the classroom and making our own Wanted posters.

In mathematics we like to learn through practical activities so that the children can understand the purpose of maths in their everyday lives. Our role-play area was recently turned into a shop so that the children could use and apply their maths skills in a realistic context.

We value the importance of outdoor learning and regularly use the Forest School area to extend our learning, whether that’s looking at symmetry in leaves or testing Paddington Bear’s coat to see if it’s waterproof!  We are also lucky to have a small outdoor learning area just outside our classroom which the children really enjoy learning in.
